Even as the economy continues to recover and the overall jobless rate declines, people who have been unemployed for six months or more are not finding jobs at the same pace as those who have only been unemployed for a short period time.

In fact, only about one in ten of the long-term unemployed get hired every year.

JBT911A horrific tragedy made nationwide headlines in January when a mother of four was stabbed to death in her hotel room in Texas.

Her eldest daughter attempted to call 9-1-1 from the next room, but the young girl didn’t realize that she needed to dial a 9 to call out of the hotel complex.

JBTPensionFixIn the year following Illinois’ attempt at reforming the state pension systems, State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant discovered yet another alarming flaw in some of the systems pension codes.

In 2011, a state employee retired from his position as a Secretary of State investigator with the State of Illinois. Nearly a year later, the State Employees Retirement System Board notified the employee that they had miscalculated his pension, resulting in an overpayment.

JBTBudget2014State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant issued the following statement after the governor’s budget address today.

“Although this is an extremely tough budget year, I was happy to see the governor work to keep his word regarding investment in education.”

The governor offered two budget proposals in his address—the first was his suggested proposal, based on the extension of the current tax rate.  The second identified cuts to services and state agencies should the current tax rate expire.
