PLAINFIELD — To keep kids reading over the summer, State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) has once again launched a summer reading club.

“Parents should encourage their children to read or read to them to help keep their minds and imaginations active,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “Getting into this daily routine has life-long benefits for our kids.”

Bertino-Tarrant, who serves as the chair of the Senate’s Education Committee, believes summer reading helps encourage children to develop a lifelong reading interest, maintains their reading skills and helps them generate an interest in libraries and books.

The Summer Reading Club requires students to read eight books of their choice during the summer break, record the names of the books and return the attached form to Bertino-Tarrant’s office by Aug. 18. Children who participate will receive a gift certificate from a local business.

If interested in participating, families can pick up a form from their local library or click the form below to expand and print.

Bertino-Tarrant urges anyone with questions to call her office at 815-254-4211.
