001Bertino-Tarrant0152Wednesday, the Senate passed a plan that would allow teens to join licensed family members while hunting in the spring.

“Hunting is a popular activity in Illinois,” said Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant.  “This measure will ensure that young boys and girls are hunting safely with trained and licensed adults.”

Senator Bertino-Tarrant helped Senator Andy Manar’s (D – Staunton) push for a Youth Hunting License that is comparable to a junior hunting permit. The new legislation lets teens begin hunting with family members without taking an expensive hunter’s education course.

The plan has the support of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources since it would offer the youth hunting license for $7 just in time for the opening of youth turkey season (March 29-30).
