2019 Summer Speaker SeriesRSJOLIET – Students and young adults are invited to attend a Self-Defense Seminar hosted by State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant.

The free Self Defense Seminar is on Tuesday, July 9 starting 6:30 p.m. at the Joliet Public Library, Black Road Branch (3395 W. Black Rd, Joliet).

The interactive self-defense class will be taught by Illinois State Police Sergeant Shelley Cox, who will demonstrate safety techniques.

“It is beneficial for students and teens of all ages to know what to do in a potentially harmful situation,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “As students prepare to leave for college or basic self-awareness, this class will help condition your reflexes and awareness in the event of an attack.”

Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) is continuing her three-part Summer Services to provide support to teens, college students and recent high school graduates.

The class is open to all young adults and college and high school students. To ensure there is ample space for all participants, prior registration is required. To register or receive further information, participants can call Bertino-Tarrant’s Plainfield Office at (815) 254-4211.
