Small Business SaturdayPLAINFIELD - State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) urges Will and Kendall County residents to shop and buy local this holiday season.

As people across the state begin their holiday shopping this year, Bertino-Tarrant is reminding residents to patronize Will and Kendall County local businesses on Small Business Saturday, November 25.

“Thriving small businesses generate vibrant and robust local economies,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “Our local businesses are making investments in our communities every day. Now it is our time to remember to make investments in them.”

Bertino-Tarrant reminds residents that Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small, family-run businesses that do so much throughout the year to support our community.

In 2016, small businesses owners generated an estimated $15.4 billion on Small Business Saturday.

For every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 goes back to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.

Bertino-Tarrant encourages small businesses and those interested in starting a local business to take advantage of the many state resources available. The Will County Center for Economic Development located in Joliet at (815) 723-1800 or Bertino-Tarrant’s Plainfield Office at (815) 254-4211, are available to assist small businesses.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Illinois’ economy,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “Take some time this holiday season, support small businesses in our communities and spend your money local.”

Small businesses and future entrepreneurs should take advantage of state programs and support services through the Illinois Department of Economic Development. Interested and potential business owners may visit www.illinois.gov/dceo/SmallBizAssistance.
