03012017CM0381WebPLAINFIELD- Research shows that providing children under the age of five with a high value education yields major long-term benefits.

To research and implement innovative policies to ease children’s transition from preschool to kindergarten, State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) was selected to serve on the Illinois General Assembly’s Kindergarten Transition Advisory Committee.

“The investments we make in our children during their formative years sets the foundation for their educational success,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “The transition between early childhood education and kindergarten is crucial. It’s important that our school systems are maximizing every learning opportunity to ensure our children are set up on a trajectory of success.”

Bertino-Tarrant sponsored House Joint Resolution 24 that created the advisory council. A member from each legislative chamber was selected to participate. The bipartisan committee must submit a report to the governor and General Assembly by September 29, 2018.

Before joining the state senate, Bertino-Tarrant was an educator and passionate education advocate. She believes her background will give the council a unique perspective to help create a beneficial report to generate vital educational strategies and proposals.

“One of the most important investments Illinois makes is in educating our children,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “The goal of the bipartisan committee is to work together to strengthen our education system to guarantee the children of Illinois are given the best possible educational experiences.”

The advisory committee held their first monthly meeting this week.
