JBT Ed Committee ReleaseSPRINGFIELD — State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood), chair of the Illinois Senate Education Committee, issued the following statement after the Illinois State Board of Education testified at an Education Committee hearing yesterday and failed to provide specifics on how to close a $4.6 billion budget hole from the governor’s budget proposal for FY 18:

“The governor believes the package does not include enough spending cuts. Therefore, committee chairs have turned to Governor Rauner’s agency directors to offer suggestions to address the governor’s request. The superintendent of education under the direction of Chairman Meeks was directed not to advocate for any cuts.”
